Jonathan and David were best friends in the OT. They would have given their lives for each other. Jonathan supported David throughout their friendship, and David watched over Jonathan too. They developed more than respect for one another; they enjoyed a brotherhood, confiding in one another and sharing secrets as well. They became vulnerable to each other while also encouraing the other. Their friendship was unbreakable b/c it was grounded in God. They were both focused on God and His agenda for them. They were an incredible pair.
Who is my Jonathan? Do I recognize this person and appreciate his/her friendship and support? Who am I a Jonathan to? Do I give of myself to others to be by their side and encourage them when the going gets rough? In reflecting on these questions, I know the Lord has blessed with many Jonathans... He has surrounded me with people like them Jonathans!
